  8.  AB    OBJECTIVE: To create on alternative to hospitalization for the aids
  9.        patients in periods where intensive treatment is not necessary, and to
  10.        make is possible for these patients to die in their homes. METHODS: Two
  11.        nurses have been responsible for the successful management of the aids
  12.        home care project. Paid helpers have been utilized for direct home care
  13.        of Aids patients. These helpers have not necessarily been educated as
  14.        social workers but have experience in many different professions.
  15.        RESULTS: After 6 years, 195 aids patients have been connected to the
  16.        project. 170 have died in their homes. The project has been a success
  17.        and is now permenent. The budget a year is 2 mill. danish kroner, and 10
  18.        patients can be home at the same time. CONCLUSION: It's possible to
  19.        create on alternative to hospitalization, and to make it possible to
  20.        take care of the patients who want to die in their home. The price for
  21.        one patients is 3 times cheaper than a bed at the hospital.
